Scarlett came to us as a rescue/rehome. In her first five years she was moved and rehomed at least 9 times. In 1997. while working as a narcotics detection dog, she went blind and was “retired”. Scarlett was left in a shelter for the second, and last, time. The Irish Water Spaniel Club of America rescued her and sent her to us.
Scarlett proved to be a resilient, indomitable, and confident girl. Her history of loss, abandonment, and “handicap”, along with a natural love for children, made her a perfect Delta Pet Partner for foster and adoptive youth. Scarlett was an old soul and touched the hearts of all who met her.
In 2000 Scarlett was nominated by the American Water Spaniel Club and then featured in the AKC Gazette‘s annual Hero issue.
Today, 17 years after she left this earth, we still miss her!

Scarlett didn't need to see to live every day with joy!
